Telemark is known for its magnificent scenery and collects most of Norway in one county. You can find high mountains, deep forests, summer cities and activities for everyone.
Telemark region is magnificent with its rivers, lakes, deep valleys. The northern parts of the county is highland areas and stretches to Hardangervidda.
The south in telemark are dominated by typical summer towns and slippery rocks.
Gaustatoppen is the county's highest mountain and Norway's finest views. It views the entire 60,000 km2 land (which is a larger area than the whole of Denmark) from an altitude of 1883 meters above sea level.
Most of the inhabitants live south of the county. The county administration is in Skien. Skien and Porsgrunn are two cities that have almost grown together and has a total of about 100 000 inhabitants.
A little further south, you'll find Kragerø and Langesund. This is mainly summer towns in Telemark where many Norwegians are traveling for recreation.
How to get around?
From Oslo, it runs trains to Porsgrunn and Skien. The other areas are not covered by rail.
The county has no public transport company, but are cooperating together with Vestfold county (Vestviken Kollektivtransport) by their bus routes.
